Wow, that sounds like your classic George Bush slam.

Hehe, one ontop of the other.
The reason they picked Taiwan for the final battles is becuase ANet has just (or will be) released Guild Wars to China and Japan. You can read more about it here.
On the same subject, I do have a question. Although I'm probably picking at bones here but if you do end up making it as far as defending your region in Taiwan, how is the player to get there -- expense wise?
Being a 21-year-old that just completed college, money is definatly not growing on trees. I doubt I'll be making it that far, but I bet there are many like me that could make it. Just wondering if it's up to the player to come across the money, or is ANet/NCSoft kicking in something? I doubt it, but never hurts to ask.

Hmm another problem in my guild. The best players are 15/16/17 and the seventeens will not be 18 before the finals. That kinda sucks as well. But it will be very unlikely that we will get to the finals anyway. But still a chance is a chance. But for other guilds that have to face the same problem, we could sorta give up from the start since we aren't allowed to go to the finals.

I so agree!
For the question about travel, ArenaNet and NCsoft do not expect you to hitch a ride on a tramp steamer, and we know it's way too far to swim. So we'll take care of the travel.

Thats funny... I honestly don't have any need for a toggle cape feature. I have too much pride in my guild, i guess.

I'm still wondering why Anet is limiting the competition to Age 18+. I don't really know the statistics but that is already cutting out 30%+ of the people who play. If its a traveling issue why can't some people play from home?

I think that the world championship is a splendid idea, even though my guild won't be in the running...
As for attendance and the age rules - I'm going to hazard a guess that the demand for attencance in Taiwan has to do with the fact that it will be a live event and a row of empty chairs and a telephone interview with the winner teams captain just isn't entertaining enough. They want sweating faces, cries of dismay and a winning team drenched in champaigne Apart from this, actual attendance will remove any (unbalanced) risk of hacks, cheating, disconnects and lag thus ensuring a fair game.
The age rules are more obscure. Most likely it's for legal reasons - Possibly Taiwanese legal reasons. By ensuring that all entrants are of a legal age they remove a whole host of snarly rules for competitions, lotteries and so on. Just my wild stab in the dark
Now, I'm really looking forward to spectator mode. I surely hope that it'll be done well before the finals - Some 'virtual' training will do the playerbase good, and seeing the top guilds in action might spur a second wave of aspirants. Interesting times ahead!

You make me smile. Yes, you are right in many ways. A live Guild Wars World Championship is a tasty notion indeed. There are great opportunities to be had in on-line meets, but dear heavens, a room full of knowledgeable players and fans of the game, watching some of the top players in the world lock eyes, wriggle fingers, whisper last-minute strategies and settle down for a resounding round of PvP? Priceless!
Oh and yes, count on Observer Mode prior to the finals.

I have two major questions.
1) How the regional play-offs will be held?
2) Will the teams builds be fixed (locked) for the play-offs?
For example - everyone knows what build runs guild [x]. And guild [y] (to meet [x] in the semi-final) has to invent anti-[x] build to win. Then guild [x] wonders what anti-[x] build has [y] invented and invents anti-[y] (anti-anti-[x]) build. etc etc etc. What a chaos!
What's the point in training and sharping the skills then you will have to use another build for evety new match? Without even testing it before...
Plz, Anet, think carefully about it.

Two years passed and still no opinion from Anet...
Yet Another thing to think of: Will Anet ban those smurf guilds from play-off?
Or we'll see the following
quarter finals:
"Esoteric Warriors" - "Esoteric Warriors VI"
"Esoteric Warriors II" - "Esoteric Warriors V"
"Esoteric Warriors III" - "The Valandor" (if they are still playing, i suspect they now move their own smurf guild up as well)
"Esoteric Warriors IV" - "RUS Corp"
semi-finals:
"Esoteric Warriors" - "Esoteric Warriors II"
"Esoteric Warriors III" - "Esoteric Warriors IV"
etc...
It would be kinda funny "championship"...

Can you tell me if they will fix the bug with deep wound it seems to be stacking. I was in a GvG battle and suddenly my HP was 1/1. I know the invinci-monks are having the same problem with the aaxtes. This needs to be addressed quickly else the Championships are going to be complete waste of time. (As warrior exploit this bug).
Are u guys working on this oversight.
